PRODUCTION AND PACKAGING
Brazil had been the top producer of these nuts before 1996. This is the reason they are known as Brazil Nuts or Castaña do Pará. However, Bolivia has been the top producer and exporter of these Nuts after 1996. In the year 2000, 10,800 tons had been exported by Bolivia, this meant that the top exporter of this commodity has been awarded to Bolivia which represents around 75% of the global market of Nuts.
The process begins with the reception of the raw material in bags which are given a unique identification to keep record during the whole process. This includes cleaning, drying with shells, pre-selection by size, peeling, elimination of defects, machine cutting and classification by granulometry, dehydration, and packaging, without the use of additives and inputs. The elaboration and packaging process complies with international standards under E.U. regulations.
Vacuum bags are used for packaging, which are placed in corrugated cardboard boxes that weigh 44 lbs. Then the container is loaded with 800 boxes reaching a gross weight of 16,800 kg. Carton cases are marked in english with exact description of contents, net weights, country of origin, full name and address of seller.
